  • Armed to Farm

    • When: June 11-16, 2023
    • Where: Boone, N.C.
    • The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) partnered with Appalachian State University’s Frontline to Farm program to bring its Armed to Farm training to North Carolina for the second time.

      Many first time trainees and alumnis joined us our Farmer Veteran Training to learn about business planning, budgeting, recordkeeping, marketing, USDA programs, livestock production, fruit and vegetable production and more. Participants were given the oppurunity to tour many farms accross the high country, and alumnis were invited back for our networking dinner at Shipley Farms. They gain a strong foundation in the basic principles of operating a sustainable farm. In addition, Armed to Farm attendees join a nationwide network of supportive farmer-veterans and agricultural advisors.

      This training is for veterans in the Southeast, with preference given to those in North Carolina.  Learn more

  • Visiting Author, Mari K. Eder:

    • When: Thursday February 24, 2022
    • Where: Plemmons Student Union, room 169
    • Author and US Army Maj. Gen. Mari K. Eder will explore the topic of change and that space between what was and what will be through the stories of women who served in WWII. Their transition to civilian life serves as a framework for discussing modern-day transformation in the midst of a pandemic. What will transform and what will be left behind?
